Person Biography

There were two George Rusts (a father and son) living in Loudoun County when the 1816 Mason family manuscript account book entry was made. The elder George Rust was born in Loudoun County in 1760. He married Elizabeth Hickman and they had three sons: George, Bushrod, and William. George Rust Sr. was a landowner and may have served as a sergeant in the 15^th Virginia Regiment during the Revolutionary War. His wife, Elizabeth, died in Loudoun County on 14 January 1844, and the elder George Rust relocated to El Dorado, Union County, Arkansas where he died on 23 January 1850 at the age of eighty-nine.
