Langley, Joseph

Joseph Langley was born around 1765 in Frederick County, Virginia, to John Campbell Langley and Mary Sarah Allen. Though his name was very common, this Joseph Langley’s proximity to Loudoun County could explain his appearance in the Mason family manuscript account book in a 1792 credit entry for Leesburg native Sebastian Losh. A Joseph Langley was registered as a private in the 1st Virginia Regiment of the Continental Army in October 1778. 

Langley married Agnes Cochran in November 1795 in Frederick County. Together they had at least eleven children. By 1820, Langley had moved to Licking County, Ohio, where he was listed as a resident in the 1820 and 1830 federal censuses. He died in or before 1850 in Licking County.
