Charles Brashears was probably born in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, around 1752. He died sometime after 1793. In 1771, he married Margaret Cooley. Charles and Margaret had five children.
Records are scarce for Charles Brashhears, but fragmentary evidence suggests several potential ties to Loudoun County and to the Mason family. Militia rolls for Loudoun County list an Edward Brashears in 1809, who may have been Charles’s son who was born in about 1776. The Brashears family owned property in several counties in Virginia and Maryland, including Nansemond, Isle of Wight, Prince George’s and Anne Arundel Counties. Advertisements in the Leesburg Genius of Liberty newspaper in 1817 show that a Colmore Brashears had mail in Leesburg awaiting collection. Charles Brashears was probably related to Edward, but his relationship to Colmore is unclear.
