Person Biography
Several William Smiths lived in Loudoun County around the turn of the nineteenth century. One William Smith was born in 1731 in Wrightstown, Pennsylvania. He married Mary Ann Williamson on 25 December 1754. While living in Pennsylvania, they had three children, the youngest of whom, also named William, was born in 1761. The family moved to Virginia after the birth of William but before the arrival of their daughter Ann, who was born in Loudoun County in 1770. This William Smith and his wife later moved to Belmont, Ohio, where he died circa 1806.
Another William Smith was a well-known Loudoun County Quaker. He was born in 1764 and died in 1842. On 6 June 1815 at the Goose Creek Quaker meeting house, this William Smith served on a committee planning where a Quaker school was going to be located. This Smith owned a farm near Hamilton in Loudoun County. His house, built in the 1810s, still stands.
